When you’re working, what tends to make an image worth keeping for you, as opposed to leaving it behind?
It’s usually just a feeling within a frame. Something just clicks when things come together and I’m drawn to a certain image. It’s not about perfection, but more about everything in the frame agreeing and flicking that instinctive switch.
Your photographs often feel contained, almost self-sufficient. Is that something you’re actively aiming for, or simply a byproduct of how you work?
It’s both, in some cases. I’m usually drawn to moments that don’t need explanation, and where a photograph can stand on its own without leaning on what came before or after.

Do you usually know quite quickly when something is worth photographing, or does it take time and distance to become clear?
For me, it’s fairly instant - there’s a kind of recognition before I really understand why.
How much of the work is resolved while you’re shooting, and how much only takes shape later, through editing?
I try to get as close as I can to a finished product while shooting. Of course, there are some situations where this is harder than others. I used to rely on edits to do some heavy lifting, but as time goes on, I have tried to move away from that mindset.
When editing, what usually pushes you to exclude an image rather than include it?
It can really be a number of things, mostly images that feel too distracting or can’t stand on their own. If there’s too much happening or not enough holding it together, I usually let it go.

When you’re sequencing photographs, what tends to guide you most: visual continuity, rhythm, or a more intuitive sense of balance?
Honestly, I need to spend more time sequencing images! I guess for me it’s a mix of visual continuity and rhythm. I always try to space apart busier images with quieter ones until a sequence feels natural and easy to read.

Looking at your work over time, is there something you’ve consciously removed or avoided as your practice has become more defined?
I’ve mostly moved away from emphasis - obvious gestures and false moments - trying to keep things as honest as possible.
Outside of photography, are there things, places, routines, objects that subtly shape the way you think about structure or restraint in your work?
I’m influenced by habits that repeat - making coffee, arranging, sequencing prints, conversations at home or with strangers, being in different places and living with my partner. I often find my photographs are shaped by that same steady attention.
